Funky Clip (870Kb) - at the end of my time with the Newtons, i was coming up with a funk song. I found this clip just sitting dormant in a folder, tucked away with my old recordings from 2005. snazzy drums courtesy of some website with free loops. funky bass faked by my stratocaster. noodling guitar played by me.
Calendar (8.7MB) - written in 2005, recorded 2006/2007 with firepod and all presonus preamps (MP20, ADL 600), uses new condenser mics (AT2020) and unique guitar amping (dave's fender blues jr. and jon's old Supro from the 60s). a big accomplishment personally, acoustically, sonically, technically for the Comeaux-Breaux team. Listen. Enjoy.
Chordal Rock (2.4MB) - jon on guitar, dave on drums, a clip from a long and extremely fun jam. recorded in october 06.
Galacticish (2MB) - dave on bass, jon on drums. we play this song too much, because it is easy to sound good at. i guess. recorded in october 06.

old music
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (3.3MB) - Instrumental. the first song recorded on the Comeaux Kid Christmas album.
White Christmas (1.9MB) - Instrumental. CKC album track 2, recorded on christmas morning, about 10 minutes before i burned copies of the CKC album for everyone.
The Christmas Song (5.1MB) - Instrumental. CKC album track 3, acoustic and electric guitar. this isn't a very good example, but here my new Fender blues jr. amp is featured for the first time in a davidcomeaux.com recording.
Silver Bells (2.9MB) - Instrumental. CKC album track 4. i didn't like the sound of my voice on the vocal version of silver bells, so i recorded the melody on guitar for this one just in case no one else does either.
O Come, O Come Emmanuel (3.6MB) - Acapella. CKC album track 5. Michelle and Julie in an angelic choral-like arrangement of this traditional piece. recorded christmas eve.
The Chistmas Song (5MB) - CKC album track 6. Julie takes lead vocal for the first time on this piece.
O Holy Night (2.1MB) - Acapella. CKC album track 7. Michelle and Julie again; i was going to add some light guitar rhythm behind their voices, but i decided not, perhaps because it was about 3 in the morning on christmas and everyone was asleep.
Silver Bells (2.9MB) - CKC album track 8. Julie has a nice vocal harmony that she does on this track, but she insists that it sounds better if 2 different voices sing it. so tada! i'm singing some silver bells too.

Fireflies (2.6MB) - a poem that i turned into a song and recorded.
Lost on the Road (4.4MB) - a song i wrote about the 2004-2005 school year. pretty fun to play.
King Snake Blues (3.3MB) - jon breaux takes his drums and goes to town! all analog recording. dirty tube guitar amp. real soul. listen to those scorching vocals!
Paid Off (1.6MB) - Newtons EP track 1. these newtons samples are just portions of the songs. Paid Off was the first newtons hit. it was also my first attempt at recording and mixing a whole band.
Surely Life is Over Now (956KB) - NEP track 2. something different from the newtons, more passive/aggressive. a different sound comes from a totally different drum mike setup and ambience.
Big Black Dog (716KB) - NEP track 3. silly lyrics, but a real fun song to jam and play to. bluesy and powerful with excessive guitar soloing.
Saturday Classic (acoustic version) (696KB) - NEP track 4. a cool song that we didn't have time to record a band version of. this is just Alex singin and playin.

Vote (5.4MB mp3) - me and Alex Daugherty were at a party sometime in october 2004 and we were playing with this guitar, when i suggested that we record it. so we went over to my place at like 1 AM and worked on this until the sun came up! a lot of fun, jammin little acoustic piece.
hurricane season 2 (2.8MB mp3) - the legend continues... i was in georgia during hurricane season of 2004, when Ivan and co. hit the south. This entire song was actually recorded during one of these hurricanes. i had a great time making this one. Also, the solo part was a fluke: i was just playing around and it fit so well that i moved around some voice clips until it sounded complete. Man, i can't wait until the next hurricane.
If Miles Were Saturn's Sunbeams (1.8MB mp3) - jon breaux experiments with GarageBand in his apartment! a sweet little song
25 days (2.2MB mp3) - my first song with lyrics, a folk-blues feel. read the lyrics on the explication page.

Bayou Surfers (1.5MB mp3) - jon takes up the old blues harp in this jam excerpt.
i am such a nerd (2.5MB mp3) - most people just say "test, 1 2 3, testing, mike test." Not David. when i test a microphone, i don't even know what's going to come out of my mouth next.
Tribute to Joey (564KB mp3) - a short little riff by Joey, recorded from a jam we did in my freshman dorm.
Walking Blues (3.5MB mp3) - hoo boy, my buddy Jonny got 'dem ol' walkin' blues!! This is a bucket-spittin, tin-pan clankin, home-brewed little cover of the original Walking Blues by Robert Johnson. Jon recorded this song with its appropriate context: one mic, everything recorded all at the same time on one track, onto analog tape. Nice! "It's the wors' ol' feelin', whoo lawd, I mos eva had..."
first use of condensers (1.6MB mp3) - not actually a song, just a little sound test with my new condenser microphones. i set up an x-y pair with the mikes and ran it into my also new mixer. as you can hear, higher quality recordings are on the way. Note: sample is not mastered for speakers, so headphones give the best listen.
Easter Again (4.1MB mp3) - this cover of the Leo Kottke song by the same name was recorded by jon. If you listen to anything on this website, listen to this song. besides being a beautiful mellow guitar solo piece, it is the finest example of home recording that i have. jon recorded this in his apartment on his imac. bravo.
gentle giant 1.0 (9.9MB mp3) - here it is, folks, dave's first unfinished project. guitar miked with his sm58 mic. drums courtesy of james who lives down the hall. enjoy.
creole belle (1.1MB mp3) - "there ain't nobody like my creole belle," jon sings to a good ol' cajun two-step tune. created entirely by jon on his 4-track. this version is only the first minute. email jon if you're interested in hearing the whole version (with the harmonica solo!).
KES (1.2MB mp3) - nic vascocu makes his debut on johncomeaux.com/david with KES, a song about love and the pains of loss. lyrics and guitar by nic. although this recording is not very good quality, nic's wonderful vocals stand out. only the first minute.
bayou boys (2.2MB mp3) - this jon original is a very slick example of home multi-track tape recording. check out that sweet vibrato effect from the jon's vintage tube amp!
1 corinthians 13:4-7 (4.1MB mp3) - a gentle caress. jon original.
the me song (261K mp3) - this silly clip comes from www.poopy.org. visit at your own risk.
wild bill (2.2MB mp3) - beginning of a crazy jam... it really rocks. jon on solo, dave on rhythm
and that's a fact (589K mp3) - beginning of a funky little diddy jam.
unoriginal mustard (6.6MB mp3) - david original... er.. rather unoriginal. i recorded this in experimentation of recording techniques on protools. the solo is a piece of crap, and i'll re do it one of these days, but its a complete song.
Electric Italian segment (750K mp3) - the famous electric italian jam. i am compelled to burst into song.
my piece of poo (1.3MB mp3) - this excerpt from a jam has my first good solo, at least, recorded. jon on rhythm
hurricane season song (1.8MB mp3) - The infamous original hurricane season song; first computer recording in Louisiana. that's my mouth beat-boxing the drums. everything is miked directly and multi-tracked in a simple editing program. before i discovered pro-tools.
roar of the cougar (50K mp3) - feeling pumped for the big game? nothing completes your cougar spirit like a cougar roar. (not an actual cougar)
