flying cars, martians, space cities, it’s all here

Oh man. Got an hour to kill?

Go Here. Once you get used to the somewhat jarring site design, this website is a very humorous (i laughed out loud on every page), highly illustrated (the historic graphics are awesome) “documentary” of pre-space-age ideas and imaginings about the future.

The first thing i toured was “Life on Other Worlds.” it’s long, but definitely worth a look when you’ve got time. the other sections (you’ll see them on the left) all are so funny… every time i take another look at the website, even during the writing of this post, i just get caught up in it again! it’s an amazing site.

just in time

well i got a lucky break! i have a job! and it pays very well!

its an office job, only on weekdays. Solid.

and, in accordance with the laws of quality jobs, i only got it because i knew somebody. la-dee-da. told you so.

Now if i can only find somewhere to work out for the summer…

money money

i’ve put it upon myself to get a job and earn money. it’s such a chore. even when i get it, i know i’m not going to blow it on something, so it will just sit somewhere as an electronic idea in some bank computer.

i played frisbee and hack and ate monkey bread on Saturday with my boys Jon and Pierre. man that was so fun. and i plan on having much more fun, including a planned get together at my place sometime. Oh yes and this weekend i am going to JAM with Jon and Matt on drums at matt’s house. summer rox. but the only thing that eats away at all the happy times is the occasional self-imposed bite of material need.

so basically, summer of 04 could be the best, but like DJ Shadow says in Why Hip Hop Sucks in ’96: “It’s the Mon-eyyy….”

what else? oh yeah. michelle’s interview. did it. i’ll post it up later.

i know why the fat lady sings

I just ate a Stouffer’s chicken pot pie.

Having extensive knowledge of microwavable Pot-Pies, i decided to compare this Stouffer’s with other brands of pot pies.

Beginning with the taste, it is delicious, downright homemade. The crust is a stupendous pastry, and associated contents are tender and choice. So i gave this one a rating of “yummy in my tummy”.

It didn’t take too long to cook, either; only 5 minutes in the microwave and all 10 oz were done. rating is a “lickety-split”.

Next, i came to the Nutritional Information. But suddenly, i went into cardiac arrest, because the walls of my arteries were lined with the FORTY-SEVEN grams of FAT (72% DRV), EIGHTEEN grams of which is SATURATED FAT (92% DRV), and the ensuing clogs prevented blood flow, which stopped my heart. This gets the pot-pie a rating of “Really Freaking Bad for You”.

i’m leaving for Dallas to watch michelle graduate from college, finishing a journey i’ve only just begun. It always happens like this. Wherever i go in ze Vorld, i know michelle has probably already been there.

sissy is 22, as of yesterday, and she’s got all her honors and her laude and her degree and her plans to live across the ocean. that is so cool. seriously you guys.

coming up after this weekend is over: look for an up-close-and-way-too-personal interview with Michelle, here on DavidComeaux.com!

job applications

If job application forms could be translated into a short description, a mere summary of an individual, mine would read like this:

events of late

this summer is moving right along.

event one: Baton Rouge aka LSU
date: thursday evening, friday morning
synopsis: our friends are all studying hard for their exams this week. Got to see Paul, Danielle, Justin, Pierre, Rami, among others. Also, got to catch up some with Jon, who seems to be kickin back and relaxing compared to everyone else. And smattered in this time was a little experience with the Tigerland nightlife, where i recognized shadows of former friends and lamented the substance-abusing young america.

event two: STM prom 2004
date: saturday night
synopsis: I took my sister Julie to her junior prom at my old High School. I’ve been to 5 proms. this one was not much different, except for one small detail. I really didn’t belong at this one. Sure, i saw plenty of kids i used to go to school with, and that was alright. And i love bopping to music, i put on my dancing shoes and cut a rug. But i also saw so much of my past, represented by scattered flashes of color, sharp tuxedos and atmosphere, that it was like remembering a former life. And i’m not living that life any more. That realization was bittersweet. And i’m a sucker for memories, especially vibrant and simple ones. So how was prom? 1) A nostalgic, melancholy joy, 2) gratefulness tinged with remorse, 3) unfulfilled hope and sad truth.

event three: mothers day
date: today!
synopsis: cooked waffles in the morning, ate mouthwatering barbecue at lunch, topped it off with some apple pie, played a little guitar, celebrated life, etc. and will continue to do so.

and now, a side note:

10. summer

jallo!

i am back home. The weather is exquisite. the drive was uneventful. summer shall be supreme.

new things, new things:
i, once free from electronic chains and previously unresponsible for those who try to reach me, have now acquired a cellular phone. I have been assigned a 10 digit number, with which any person with telephone services can harass me at any moment. the phone itself i have nothing against: i still marvel at its wizardry of engineering and compact simplicity. It is literally no bigger than the palm of my hand, about the size of an egg. However, there are grave consequences: like a slave, i am bonded to it and must answer to its beckoning. If you’d like to be one of the causes of my misery, email me and ask my for my cell number.

also, i patiently await the response of my prospective employer. My job for the summer, if plans become reality, will be to design websites for local businesses. but, perhaps those well-laid plans go awry. I’m looking at the difference between large sums of easy money and small increments of hard-earned pennies. I would much prefer the former, as does Donald Trump et al.

My room is still absolutely littered in my belongings, i have not put many things away. sigh. As goes my life right now. Must work on that. Get things in order.
