cajun holiday

location: south louisiana
objective: relax brain, spend quality time with friends, obtain traditional christmas gifts, fill belly with local food.
mission accomplished: mais yah, cha!

and now, introducing… 2004! it’s like 2003.. except.. right afterwards!
a whole new year! alot can happen in 365 days, potentially 365 posts or more. so keep visiting the site and enjoy every minute of it! Because there will only be 525600 minutes of it in 2004! oh wait, i take that back.. it’s a leap year…527040 minutes of it! even better. to start it off, i have written a nice long journal entry for you.

be on the lookout for my birthday, february 15. you can tell it’s coming when valentine’s day happens. now that i have my paypal account, you can send me my birthday present securely and easily over the internet! i accept all major credit cards, etc.

speaking of paypal, i recently won an eBay auction for my long-awaited mixer! that’s right, the Behringer 1832FX-PRO stereo mixer! and then, after a bit of research and some thorough investigation with my good buddy and co-author jon breaux, we decided that perhaps one should save up and purchase a MOTU 828 rackmounting firewire recording system instead.

you can’t always win.

desiree has decided to learn guitar. it all started the other night when her friend Katie showed her how to play a song. suddenly, after dating a guitarist for almost 2 years, she realizes the fact that maybe she could learn to play, too. hold the phone, didn’t david just win a new guitar? by jove, you’re right! desiree could use the new guitar, an unexpected christmas gift! perhaps it was fate.

paying tribute to the lists that are going around on this website, here’s one of my own.

Things i accomplished while i was at home (during my first semester break in college):

  • played A LOT of the computer game Need For Speed: Underground
  • (almost) never woke up before noon
  • electrically shielded the pickup cavities in my stratocaster
  • spent the most money on new clothes than i’ve ever spent in my entire life (just shy of $100)
  • installed OS X Panther on my imac
  • discovered that Windows sucks even more than i thought
  • bought a wah pedal for my guitar
  • installed a pearloid pickguard on my guitar
  • bought a mixer for recording
  • beat the game Need for Speed: Underground

i spent time with lots of great old friends, like jon breaux, bennett, bradley, matt, and paul, as well as a fun visit with rami and katie. i also had several of those “Hi–good-to-see-you–how-ya-been–really-must-be-going-now–keep-in-touch” conversations with random acquaintances, scattered around lafayette. you never remember anything about those conversations except the way the person looked; maybe you’ll recover a fragment about where they go to school, but that’s about it. i imagine high school reunions will be similar unless you meet a long lost friend.

man, this vacation has been nice. i’ve got two more days left here in cajun country, and then it’s back to the daily grind. This semester i have a relatively tight schedule, waking up every day for classes at 9:00 am, finishing every day by 4:00 pm. I will be working at my telephone job that i hate for another month, and then the job stops. I don’t know what i’ll do with myself after that… maybe start running again. write a novel. save the whales. create a new genre of music. or even study. no, i won’t study.

but seriously, folks, this year i want to work harder and deserve the grades i get. i hope more work dosen’t necessarily mean less play.

in a way, i can’t wait to get back to Georgia and my own room and my guitar amplifier. free again.

after being home for a while, i realized what i really need for this website: a digital camera, just like dad’s new one. People read davidcomeaux.com, but oftentimes they express interest in actually seeing what i’m seeing. That’s a great idea, thunk i. but alas, i am a poor college student who is putting his money into his music.

That’s the whole reason why i’m going to school anyways… to get a job that will fund my lifelong pursuit of music.

…ok maybe so i can support a family…

…like on the side…

..or something…

MAYBE

Hmmm…digital camera, photo blogs, I was thinking the same thing. i will work on establishing a fund for the site. Donations anyone?

hey, don’t sweat those lifelong pursuits, that’s why they are life long.

i’ll be sad to see you go…

hey dave and jon, check out ebay for the digital cameras! you can get them pretty cheap. and if you’re not planning on taking action shots, you can get one really cheap! Wanna buy mine? I’m about ready to upgrade ;-) About the donations thing, something tells me that’s not going to work out too well, as the majority of the people who read your journals are poor college students just like you :)

    Dave
I saw that you’ve moved from Need for Speed to Chess as a computer pastime. Nice choice. I’m glad you enjoyed your holiday.
    Love, Dad.
