notice anything… Festive?
Ta daa! For the first time, DavidComeaux.com will celebrate Christmas!
The design, completely centered around the colors of the season, red, green, and white, is completely hand done by our resident graphic artist, Dave. We know, it’s a little tacky, but hey, blame those commercial geniuses who capitlized on building the popular Christmas tradition. New images to look out for:

These new logos will identify the author. How intuitive! the “J” is an upside-down candy cane! neato! and the “D” is… well… a D. When we get to christmas break, i’ll have LOADS of time to do a lil site overhaul; i’ll add some mp3′s, add LOTS of pictures, and some more various etceteras. i have lots of room on this server, and by golly, i’m gonna fill it up.
Thanksgiving was tremendous. Wild success. Wonderful. Mad Props to my homies. And the break’s not even over yet. more fun to come. well, i don’t know if anyone will even check my website when i’m in town.
challenge: get my homework done before i have to go back to school. think it’ll happen? hmm i dunno.
Coming up later on davidcomeaux.com, a personal take on my Thanksgiving Break. (this could be a long one)

Thunksgeefing ees upun us! I em ebuoot tu leefe-a skuul, und fur a leettle-a foon, i leerned hoo tu speek Cheff-Speek! Su Breeng in zee Torkey!

Smorgelsborfen der Uben-Torkey! Jah! Jah! Und der Schlaben! Der Deugenschlaben!!!!!
(yay!)

well i am almost there.
only two more days to go.
I am in school overdrive, anything that isn’t school, i can’t worry about.
except for this blog.
sorry if this entry is unfufilling.

**UPDATE**
well, at approximately 8:50 this morning, travis collapsed from a solid 48 hours of being awake. His roommate Brett won the pool of $27. thanks to all who participated.
**END UPDATE**
Seinfeld has achieved legendary status in the world of television (and in the lives of many) as one of the most popular sit-coms of the nineties. It ran for 9 seasons, in 180 episodes, totalling 65 hours and 45 minutes of good old situation comedy. Die-hard fans of Seinfeld are everywhere, rivalling that of older, more established sit-com fan groups for shows like “The Cosby Show”, “I Love Lucy”, and even “Saved by the Bell”.
I am proud to announce the Seinfeld Extravaganza to the world! The premise: watch all one-hundred-eighty episodes consecutively for 66 hours straight. The challenge: No sleeping, no stopping, no interruptions. Our hero: Travis, from the first floor. Can he make it? will he crash?
He’s been planning the Seinfeld Extravaganza for weeks, compiling an exhaustive list of episodes (including the pilot episode), downloading every one (commercials extracted) and ensuring its quality. We’ve computed the exact total time from the total amount of video stored on his computer.
This weekend is it! The Seinfeld Extravaganza is on… Starting at 12 noon on Friday, he should finish around Monday at 6 AM, conveniently before classes start at 9.
thursday night, I decided to start a small private pool going on when he was going to fall asleep. I drew up a chart delineating the time of day for all 66 hours. One can purchase an hour slot for one dollar. The response has been great. 27 hours or so have been reserved already, and more are coming in. Some of our friends have bought stretches of 5 hours at a time. Travis, of course, is not allowed to bet himself, and he is totally impartial to the participants. However, if he outlasts all 180 episodes, all 9 seasons, he wins the pool! We all are rooting for him, even if we believe he might not make it. Everyone visits him and checks on him periodically. I watched the first 8 episodes with him, i get him food, i also computed a few approximate checkpoint times for him to make sure he’s on track. People are always coming in and watching with him. some of our friends stayed up till 4 or 5 am with him last night. Its a wonderful community builder. And Seinfeld really is funny.
Quality Entertainment, College style.
Updates to come!

Good luck and godspeed cc. team!

i must apologize for the lack of update the past few days, sadly the net is STILL down at my apartment. apparently there is something wrong with the wiring in our walls.
alas and alack.
anyway, I am overjoyed to hear that Panther has been purchased by the padre of my compadre. i too have been debating the upgrade with the remanants of my graduation money. thanks again to the comeaux’s i will now have a helping hand to turn too, to find out if it’s worth it for the student with a college budget.
i guess i should also start the countdown, yeah, school is almost over. like 10 days left for me + finals.
i hear a sound in the distance…..it sounds a lot like a jet engine… on the tarmac of the lafayette runway… carrying a certain person from a certain college in a certain state in the us.
the clock is ticking.
Boy am I ready.

i got an email from Dad, notifying his recent purchase and acquisition of a certain Mac OS X Panther. my heart lifted! i will finally be able to use the glorious cutting edge operating system. think of the possiblities!
Naturally, a mental whiplash occured… my poor 4 year old iMac might struggle with the advanced 3d graphic capabilities; it’s only 400 Mhz. Not even a G4. Don’t get me wrong, this trusty machine has gotten me everywhere. We’ve already made close personal bonds together. i know, with a little love, we can do Anything, even the Aqua interface.
But even more devastating… ProTools Free is NOT AVAILABLE FOR OS X!!! Jon Breaux has been recovering from this heartbreaking realization ever since he got his hot lil’ new iMac with OS X (jaguar) already loaded on it. Jon… i feel your pain. however, perhaps i have the option, unlike jon (since i am using a 4-year old iMac) to boot in OS 9. there could be hope.
_________
For those of you who don’t have a clue about what i’m talking about, Dad bought this new software that’s really pretty and cool. But i don’t know if i want to use the new pretty cool software. If i use it, i might not be able to Record my Music the way i like. I am torn: use the pretty and cool software, or record pretty and cool Music. yarg!
in other news, i jammed today with roomie and we rok.
today was tuesday, and it was definitely another triple torture tuesday. just in case you didn’t know that already.

i just realized how little work i am actually doing here at college. practically nothing. sure, i think about doing work a lot… i think i did a lot more work before. but not really now. oh well. dommage.

la musique est ici! coutez, et votre monde viendriez vivant! Voil!
well folks i have some treats for you this week! listen, taste a little bit of home-brewed joy!
Creole Belle (1.0 MB mp3) – this song, written and recorded by Jon Breaux, is done in the traditional cajun two-step style. it is just plain Fun. sing along and it’s even more fun. find the words on the explication page. this is just the first verse, by the way… if you’d like to hear the whole thing, you can purchase the album “Jonny B. and the Mud Dogs” for only 9.95!!! or email us.
KES (1.2 MB mp3) – Nic Vascocu makes his debut on Davidcomeaux.com with KES, a song about the painful separation between Nic and his first real love. Nic is going to school in New York City, and she is going to UT. Even though this clip is just the rough first recorded copy of the song, his voice is, as usual, a beautiful euphonic stream, precisely inflected and melodious. Warning: due to haphazard recording conditions, volume is a bit loud.
Gentle Giant (9.9 MB mp3) – And now, presenting my very own recording! for you loyal visitors to the site, this is the song i’ve been working on every now and then. I don’t want to comment too much on it, except that it’s NOT finished. there is much to be done. please be gentle.
* * * * * *
please comment on recordings if you’d like.
there’s more to come at a later date. stay tuned.

The long golden fingers of Dusk gently embrace the evening.
Her veil of shadows drags along the ground,
concealing a worn and tired body, the fading day.
Her one pale eye gazes its forlorn stare to the East, as the darkness comes,
unwelcome as the cold autum wind that rattles the teeth of the pines.
But though the evening dies, she does not expire.
She is consumed by the darkness, so completely, nothing but the waning
gaze of her eye remains.
Resting, she is hidden from the vultures of the night,
only to rise again, on the first rays of the new rising sun.
Like Sisyphus, she begins again.
Our long journey,
into the darkness,
into the night.

des’s favorite thing to do is put up decorations around the house for the holidays. now that she’s not living at home any more, she can’t possibly take part. However, she has such a strong nostalgic attatchment to this tradition that she would rather nag her parents, 700 miles away, to make sure to put them up, than know that they weren’t put up at all.
so this past wednesday i surprised des and took her to the great and wonderful Wal-Mart and told her to pick out some christmas decorations for her room. She was so excited. And don’t get on my back about it not even being thanksgiving yet; you dont understand. i figured, well, since she can’t have a whole month’s worth of christmas at home, she can have a whole month’s worth here in Georgia. And i must say, it looks very pretty.

So it’s thursday again.
i’ve noticed that my thursday blogs seem to follow a pattern:
1) I post about how it is thursday and the week flew by and is now reaching it’s conclusion
2) I make extravagant predictions about exciting things i will do on the weekend.
3) I lament that it is not yet friday and then make some attempt at a funny comment.
But this thursday i am breaking the cycle. this thursday i will not talk about the conclusion of the week or my weekend plans or attempt a funny remark.
(Author adopts a serious tone)
Instead I will encourage all persons who are living in Louisiana and/or are considered a Louisiana resident to come to the polls on Saturday to vote.
This is perhaps (although hopefully not) a once-in-a lifetime voting opportunity.
For the first time in LA history a white male will not be elected to the govenor’s office.
For the first time in U.S. history an indian-american may become govenor of a U.S. state.
Whatever happens, this election is indeed momentous. It marks a sea change in LA politics and perhaps politics in other states as well.
The times they are a changin’ and the great state of LA is leading the way?
Can it be?
Yes.
So this weekend, LA residents of legal voting age, fufill your patriotic duty, and cast your vote!

A note for those intrested in tracking the lives of the site authors.
A time change occurs between Georgia and Louisiana. The web-site’s clock is running on Georgia Time. (that sounds like a bad southern aphorism.)
all recorded post made by dave are correct. all recorded post made by jon are actually one hour earlier than the site notes.
So jon’s present is dave’s past, and dave’s present is jon’s future.
Not that anyone cares.
Just thought I’d put it out there.

Don’t you just love it when words that should be plural are written in their singular form?
I think it’s great.
For example, today I was happily strolling out of my Geology Lab on the second floor of the massive geo-science complex here on campus. As I approached the door that would lead me to the stairwell, I noticed that the sign on the door said, “STAIR”.
so of course, logically, when I opened the door I expected to see just that, 1 stair. Then I mentally prepared myself for the tremendous effort if would take for me to leap from the second floor to the first floor unharmed.
But when i opened the door, to my great suprise, I found a set of stairs. as in more than one stair. i thought, “how nice, someone thought to add more stairs for the safety of those people trying to go up and down between floors.”
seriously.
stair is not the plural of stair. stairs is the plural of stair. this is not like those other words in english that have plurals that do not end in ‘s’ such as:
man today stinks, i have a fungus. oh you think your life is bad, my room is full of fungi.
you don’t say, “oh boy i recieved two pro-tools system for christmas”, you say, “oh boy i recieved a pro tools system for christmas”. (wink-wink)
so maybe i’m being the language police. but still.
i for one resolve to make a conscious effort to pluralize word when they should be plural.
make that “words”.
just another thought straight from me to you.
