oh well…

i took my Math exam friday. the one i was worried about. it was pretty bad. even though i spent all night studying or with some fellow pupils who were trying to understand, i got shafted.

here’s why. we had 6 problems, all stuff that i recognized. so i worked and worked and worked. when i got stuck, i moved to a different one. and i worked and worked. i tried all of them. i answered 2, maybe 3, with complete answers. the rest were either almost there, or all i had left was algebraic manipulation. and then time was called. i knew the stuff. i just didn’t know it fast enough. i hope he gives partial credit.

dang.

in other news, des took me to the mall yesterday, and we walked into Express for Men. Now, i know what’s trendy. i know what’s hip. i just don’t buy and wear it. well, Des picked out an “outfit” for me to try on, just for kicks. One a those mod-casual-male-banana-republic looks. And it didn’t look that bad. in fact, i looked pretty sharp.

now, des knows whats up with clothes. i knew that. but she wants me to be cool, too. i don’t know if i can cut it. college is a time of exploration. can i be cool? do my dimensions and bone structure adapt well to this new, expensive clothing? why are clothes, and their associated connotations, so influential, even though they are almost always (esp. in pop culture) purely aesthetic?

perhaps, when i get a job that makes multiple thousands of dollars a year, i can afford to purchase finer clothing.

some other funny things with des:
des compared my face to her dog’s butt.
des explained to her mom what “talkin’ smack” means.
des has ingested the entire nation of Columbia’s coffee reserves, and she evidently is having problems determining the time of day, since she drinks all of it at midnight.
des bought something, and actually convinced me that she needed it. i still don’t remember exactly why, but i remember that she does.

windows users and safari users – clear your cache, and then reload my website. you should see an icon (a little ‘d’ graphic) next to the address! it took me a while to make that work.

Updates that will come: i will move my poo to this server, and then upload my new poo that i recorded Here in Macon over to this server, as well as featuring a song from Nic and a little recording ditty from Jon. and i’ll fix the date and time. and i’ll fix the random image scripts on the other pages. so much to do!

maybe i’ll do some homework instead….. NAHHHHHH!!!

haircut, funny picture post!

i had to get a haircut. and turned out BAD. so des took a picture of it. now, we tried to not make it look that bad. and i guess its not so bad in the picture. BUT!!!! in my ramblings, i uncovered some interesting photos for you to compare. picture post!!!! yay! click “continue reading” to see the pics! pay attention to the hair.

overcoming fear

i promise, the posts in the near future will be filled with happy times and beautiful reflections on life, and not a whole lot of me blabbering on about non-fun.

the first life-related thing i’ve learned at College. i found this out last night. and i’m still pulling through it.

what? college? i go to college?

that’s right. i figured it out… today.

Projects are being lined up. first exam this friday. i am now Looking and scraping around for the time to do homework, instead of doing it when im bored out of my mind. My job started tonight, and i discovered that the 3 hours every day spent at it will be (at first) the worst 3 hours i will spend every day. Alas. i can take it.

i’ve been living life for the past few months with a lowered guard. in order not to be smacked out cold this week, and probably during the ensuing weeks, i gotta keep my chin down, my stance tight, and my eyes on the enemy. oh yeah and try not to slobber all over the mouthguard; no hitting below the belt; no biting; a count of 10 determines KO ( i think the boxer imagery is going too far ?).

welp. this is it. don’t be surprised if i dont post again until thursday-friday or so. and that goes for emails too….

you’re on your own, kiddos.

random image script hell

after working for 3 or 4 straight days the random image on the homepage’s sidebar finally works.

i dont know why.

but hopefully, it will stay that way. enjoy.

oh yeah and another backwards thing i noticed: the time stamp of all my posts is incorrect. my server time and my server perl must be messed up. i will alert authorities. i didnt pay 41.95 for incorrect time and/or perl.

if this post confuses you, skip it. it dosen’t mean anything anyways.

liberty, justice, and MUSIC for all

Universal Music Group, the number 1 record company, is acting like the leader it should be. They are cutting retail prices on CD’s!!! Suggested retail price, instead of the astronomical $18.98, is going to be cut as much as 31 percent, to a reasonable $12.98. Bargain stores will have new CD’s out at like 9.50 or 10 bucks.

The world will be a better place.

And then, when the other record companies get the picture, like Sony and EMI, people shall rejoice. the children will laugh in musical glee. we are inching closer and closer to idyllic society.

this is more than a price cut. this is a promise by the commercial bringers of art and music to the people. they have opened up their arms, lovingly, to their life-blood consumers, and are saying “we love you. we know you really deserve to experience all the beauty and the art of humankind for free. dry your tears, little one; we’re trying harder now. go forth, be not afraid and so tight-fisted.”

In celebration, i dedicate at least one-week’s-worth pay of my new job to buying quality albums that i have pirated versions of, or to just buying new CD’s. I also propose that we all do something similar.

we should, because it’s our job to meet them halfway. in actuality, guys, they have evaluated their profit losses and compared prices with online music providers and consumer demand, and then decided to take one for the team, hoping we will respond accordingly and come back to the CD shops instead of resorting to computer piracy. and i think we should.

now, there’s no use in punishing the “evil” companies for their past inflictions on our pocketbooks. if we don’t take this opportunity, the company might resort to raising prices again.

“For EMI Plc, ‘a 15 percent net fall in price would require a 37 percent increase in volumes to make the same amount of profit, something which is hard to imagine.’” – from article above

see? we have been beating the companies up so much recently, that they can’t possibly believe we will respond. but if we do respond to Universal’s drastic measures, life gets better for everyone.

At least, that’s what i think.

word

to start of my weekend, unlike most college kiddies, instead of going to the game or to a party, i went to a Piano and Violin Concert with des. And it was GOOD. They played some 20th century modernist-neo-romanticist music from all kinds of crazy composers. we sat really close and the minute i heard the first few notes from the glorious Steinway Grand Piano, i was transported to the world of musical expression, like Satie, Debussy, and the rest. Both artists who played were virtuosos in their instrument, and didn’t mind playing a few mind-blowingly challenging lines just for fun.

twas cool.

responsibility

i, david comeaux, have applied for, been interviewed, and become employed in an actual job for the first time in my life. i telephone alumni and ask them for money. Just call me the Official Phone-A-Thon Caller man. victory is sweet. but it probably wont be so sweet for long.

this job works me 6-9 pm, mon-thurs. Not bad, you might say. we’ll see.

in other news, Brooke Cranfield has a livejournal! sweet. Brooke is one of the best people i met in lafayette, and she became a fast friend at STM. you might have noticed her comment on davidcomeaux.com recently. She goes to UT, and her incredible journal documents her daily adventures (most of them rather long). My own excitement at this discovery was immeasurable. After i got done reading all of her posts in chronological order, i vowed that this was truly one of the best blogs i will ever read. perhaps it is because i actually know this person; i recognize all characters, i have in-depth knowledge of the relationships inherent. but i think it’s more. i think she reveals the most interesting part of her character in recollection of events for the journal. bravo, brooke! keep on writing. it sure is fun to read!

that’s about all i have to say now.

what a week!

wowie. since the last time i posted, so much has happened. it takes a good, long story to get through with. maybe i’ll write a good long story later. for now, if you’d like to read some vibrant literary color, check out jon’s post, which follows this one. IT’S STUPENDOUS. IT’S TRANSCENDANT. IT’S just plain good.

read this (sorta) condensed version of my day(s)! like campbells condensed soup! for full flavor, just add email!

  1. buy this domain, spend hours and hours working on moving the site.
  2. internet flubs out at Mercer. david dosent know what to do with himself. consequently, des takes david shopping at the mall.
  3. the mall!! what was i thinking!! i wasn’t!!
    • college student money saving tip of the day: fresh warm gooey chocolate chip cookies at mall = 30 cents. cold milk from baskin robbins = 15 cents. yes!!!

  4. dillema: leftover easy mac in fridge, apparently from previous snack of roomie. he’s not here. should i eat it?
  5. labor day weekend, every single person at Mercer University goes home because they live in Georgia. Except me and des and a handful of foreigners. What to do, what to do? (begin labor day weekend sequence)
    • get invited to frat party.
    • recall why you’re not joining fraternities.
    • sketch from my journal
    • plan day trip to the BEACH! Tybee Island in Savannah, GA
    • drive to Savannah with des (3 hrs), very beautiful city, i love the name, find beach
    • complications begin
      • no cash, atm card malfunctioning, bad directions, general anxiety

    • solutions surface: get food, arrive at Atlantic Ocean, relax in sunshine.
      • the water is warmer than in North Carolina a month ago
      • compose some haiku
      • strange realization that i’m actually on the beach during the school year
      • build scale model of nuclear submarine… in the SAND! (wish i had pictures)

    • drive home in time for dinner @ mercer cafeteria
    • just when i go to sleep, 2 am, des calls me. she’s sick!
    • worry in the hospital till 7am. get to sleep, for the first time after roomie is already sleeping, wake up on labor day at 3:30.

  6. des starts getting better
  7. get a telephone call from lafayette…

  8. got my website running instead of going to class, sent out emails to all of my precious pals.
  9. currently in the process of responding to everyone’s emails that i got while the internet was down.

Well, that’s an update from the front. updates coming soon: more recordings on the site, and will soon upload current recordings to Davidcomeaux.com server. also, if you can’t see the “random pic”, that’s because i cant get it to work yet… something about the permissions on my server. there are still a few things that need to be patched up here. don’t worry. check back later.

oh, and a special thanks to all of you who visit the site. without your precious readership, this website, and therefore its contents (my life), would be rendered pointless. and that’s no fun!

well i’m off to spend some hours in silent slumber. fare thee well.

A personal entry on my b-day

okay this is basically a poetry/prose reflection on turning 19. i didn’t write this to be cheesy or sentimental (although it may come off that way, i hope not though). also this is personal stuff. rarely does the scribble in my black notebook see the light of day, but i felt compelled to share, not out of a sense of voyeurism, but because i think my feelings are universal to everyone my age. hopefully this will provoke a thought or stir a memory…. so here it is …with a bullet:

Sept. 2, 2003

i sit and survey my life.
nineteen years ago, i entered into this world, and nineteen years later i sit on this bench in the shade of oak trees
watching college kids go by, dressed in jeans and shorts and skirts and colored shirts and a light breeze stirs my hair
and pushes this september heat around.

Yes, they are everywhere.

people of every kind and mind looking for the truth in crowded dirty classrooms and packed auditoriums, and i march in their ranks too, a journyman soilder in the fight against ignorance.

it has been a long nineteen years.

nineteen years of experiencing the chaos of a life bound by a culture that has long lost it’s grip on reality.
exposed to men dying, men living, men being born, men being created, in a constant stream of unadulterated existence.
